What Diablo 3 Could Learn from Torchlight
We cover an article about what Diablo 3 could learn from the newly released torchlight game.
First of all the torchlight is an awesome game, and is a great comparison to Blizzard Entertainment (Diablo III )have alot to learn from Runic Games former Blizzard North Devs.
The Modding Community
Because you can alter everything in Torchlight from skill, stats, monsters, level, design, levels, graphics. It gives endless posibilities to create new cool game features for a RPG game such as Torchlight.
With the Torchlight Editor (PrEditor) it is almost possible to edit anything you like to the game, and even create a whole new levels.
While Diablo 3 devs have stated that they will not include an editor and basically disables softcore modding for Diablo 3.
Blizzard could look back to starcraft, warcraft 3 and world of warcraft which all supported mods and its been a huge success, and the long life cyclus of the games.
Frankly it will not be enough for Diablo 3 to survive with just endless leveling and trading community. People want more! They want to alter everything and anything what is possible. This gives a game long life and a strong community.
Limited file support
With the Blizzard own file format BLP they are limiting them selfs, they force hardcore tech people are able to edit there files. With Torchlight they have choicen a more democratical way, to give all the graphics and data files in one big zip file – free to edit. Again here Blizzard could open up to give a better support of mods for there community.
Diablo 3 vs Torchlight Conclusion:
It would be great if Blizzard devs could open up there eyes and be more open minded and learn from previous games. There is no doubt that a strong modding community would increase gaming sales and the life cyclus of the game.
So we can only hope the devs will change there minds, what you think?
