Battle.net is the largest gaming community in the world with 12 million users, says Vice President of Blizzard Entertainment Rob Pardo.

This is only the begining and with the new Battle.net 2.0 presented at BlizzCon 2009 with Starcraft 2, the community will be way bigger.

Battle.net Real ID Feature
Blizzard calls battle.net 2.0 “Real ID” that should prevent hacking and is a cross gaming platform service, where you will be able communicate with your mates between World of Warcraft, Starcraft 2 and Diablo 3 universes.

Moreover you can invite friends,  and create your own community in Battle.net 2.0. Also battle.net will log your gaming experience with achievements, where people can view your ranks and gaming history.

The new Battle.net 2.0 should support better match making and have an anti-hacking system, with the blizzard authenticator that should prevent password thieves.

Battle.net Social Networking
The community will include next generation social networking features. Such as Twitter & Facebook intergrated into the battle.net where you can find your friends between other networks.

Blizzard is not finished here: there plans is to melt Starcraft 2, Diablo 3 and World of Warcraft into one large community with a player expected playerbase of wooping 30 million users.

Battle.net was updated last time back in 2003 with Warcraft 3.

World of Warcraft is just right behind with 11.5 million subscribers, and is world largest MMORPG. Followed by Xbox live community with 4 million subscribers.

All over its very cool things blizzard is developing for the new battle.net 2.0
